What's Happening THIS SEASON?

OCTOBER
The place is a hive of activity with us picking and juicing apples. We are currently juicing Russet apples into both the 25cl and 75cl bottles. The Russet crop is fantastic and the juice is a very typical Russet flavour with a slight sharp kick at the end. Once we have finished the Russet we plan to move onto Cox's which makes one of our most popular juices. We will finish the month by juicing Bramley which we add to our Cox's juice which adds another dimension to the juice. A dry and sharp juice which is great with any meal.
We have also picked the first small crop from our three year old red orchard. We managed enough for about half a pressing, we would hope that the crop will now get bigger every year.

JANUARY
I hope everyone had a great break and raring to go after the holidays. Our new year started off with a bang and it is buzzing at Bradley’s Juice. We had an article written about us in the Guardian which is always great. We were the winner of the Bath Good Food awards for non alcoholic drinks which is fantastic to get a pat on the back for all our hard work..
Our trees are still struggling in the wet but hopefully with the drier weather the ground will dry out. We are pruning which is great fun in good weather and it is lovely to be outdoors all day.
We are launching an ecommerce site at the end of January so now you can purchase your favourite juice and we will get it delivered directly to your door.
Juicing is still going on with us finishing the Fallstaff and Cox’s and then we are onto Braeburn later in the month.

DECEMBER
The weather forecast is for another wet month and it is not much fun working outdoors. I spent all of Thursday standing in the rain hand sorting out apples ready to juice. The best part of the day was the soak in the hot bath to thaw out.
I am sure you have all read about the poor crop of apples and Bradleys Juice is suffering just like all the other growers.
This month we are juicing Russet which makes a fantastic drink. We pick the apples late in the season so that they have time to turn golden brown from the Autumn sun and more of the starches have turned to sugar. Our Russet juice is never filtered so it is silky smooth fairly sweet and absolutely delicious.
We are also juicing Spartan and Fallstaff which we will be using with ginger for our apple and ginger.
Bradleys have recently started brewing ginger beer. Unlike most ginger beers we use fresh ginger and it takes us 7 days to make a batch. Our ginger beer has been a great hit with customers and the comments we are getting are that it tastes like ginger beer use to in the old days or like Mum made it without the exploding bottles.
With this being a short month we will stop juicing by the 23rd of December and will start again on the 7th January so we wish you all a merry Christmas and a fantastic 2013.

November
The yard is filling up with apples picked and ready to juice. The process of making fantastic apple juice is simple but we are fanatical in our detail to ensure that we make the best juice possible.

Firstly we tip the apples from the large boxes onto a sorting area so that we can ensure that only the best apples are made into our juice. (We believe that this is the reason why people who try our juice say it is the best they have tasted) The old and bruised apples are used in making our small batches of Cider.

The apples that pass are then washed and then fall into our new apple mill. All the apples are milled into small pieces which are then used to make the cheeses on the press. The juice is squeezed out and passes into a storage container to settle. Once the juice has settled we will rack it off and bottle it and then gently pasturise it to ensure that it remains fresh.

SEPTEMBER
With summer gone we are now going into the best time of the year for me. I love this time of the year when you have all the berries and we are now picking apples and juicing every day. So far this month we have juiced Worcester Pearmain and we will be starting on Lord Lambourne next week. before moving onto the Cox and Bramley apples. Our new orchard has done very well this year and is looking good with a few Fallstaff apples to be picked.next week.
